WhatsApp Business API pricing changed significantly in 2026, and most of the “pricing guides” still floating around online reference the old per-conversation model Meta retired. Here’s what businesses in India actually pay in 2026, broken into the two separate costs that get bundled together (and confused) in most explanations: Meta’s own message fees, and what a setup or management partner charges on top.
The Two Separate Costs You’re Actually Paying
Anyone quoting you “WhatsApp API pricing” is really quoting one of two very different things, and mixing them up is the most common way businesses misjudge their real monthly cost.
- Meta’s per-message rate – what Meta itself charges to deliver each template message, billed directly through your WhatsApp Business Account
- Your setup/management fee – what a BSP (Business Solution Provider) or automation partner charges to build, host, and run your chatbot, broadcast, and integration layer on top of Meta’s raw API
A business with zero message volume still pays a management fee if they have a partner running their setup. A business sending 50,000 messages a month pays Meta’s per-message rate regardless of which partner they use, since Meta’s rates are fixed and identical across every BSP.
Meta’s Per-Message Rates in India (2026)
As of January 2026, Meta shifted WhatsApp Business Platform billing from per-conversation pricing to per-template-message pricing, and India moved to local currency (INR) billing at the same time. Current India rates by message category:
| Message Category | Rate (India, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Marketing | ₹0.8631 per message |
| Utility | ₹0.115 per message |
| Authentication | ₹0.115 per message |
| Authentication (international) | ₹2.4971 per message |
Meta revised marketing template rates upward by roughly 10% in January 2026, from ₹0.7846 to ₹0.8631 per message. One important detail that changes the math for most businesses: service messages remain free within the 24-hour customer service window. If a customer messages you first and you reply within 24 hours, that reply doesn’t cost anything, regardless of category. The per-message rates above apply only to business-initiated template messages sent outside that window, marketing broadcasts, order confirmations, OTPs, and similar.
What Businesses Actually Spend Per Month
On average, businesses in India spend between ₹1,000 and ₹10,000 or more per month on message costs alone, depending on communication volume and how heavily they rely on marketing-category broadcasts versus utility messages and free service-window replies. A business that mostly handles inbound customer support (free within the window) spends far less than one running weekly marketing broadcast campaigns to a large contact list.
A rough way to estimate your own number: multiply your expected monthly marketing broadcast volume by ₹0.86, add your utility/OTP volume multiplied by ₹0.115, and remember that ordinary customer service replies within 24 hours cost nothing.
What a Setup and Management Partner Adds
The second cost, and the one most guides skip, is what you pay a partner to actually build and run the thing: Meta Business verification, WhatsApp Business API approval, chatbot and auto-reply flow design, message template creation and approval, broadcast campaign setup, and CRM or e-commerce integration. This is quoted per project scope rather than a fixed rate, since a basic auto-reply setup and a full CRM-integrated automation system with custom chatbot flows are very different amounts of work.

FAQs: WhatsApp Business API Pricing in India
Is WhatsApp Business API free?
The free WhatsApp Business App is free, but it’s limited to one device and basic automations, suitable only for very small volumes. The WhatsApp Business API (Platform) itself has no license fee from Meta, but you pay per-message rates for business-initiated template messages, plus whatever a BSP or automation partner charges for setup and management.
Why did WhatsApp API pricing change in 2026?
Meta moved from per-conversation billing (where a single 24-hour conversation window covered unlimited messages within it) to per-template-message billing, giving businesses clearer, more predictable per-message costs. India also switched to INR billing at the same time, removing currency conversion overhead.
Do I pay for customer replies?
No. Any message you send within 24 hours of a customer messaging you first is a free service-window reply, regardless of message category. You only pay Meta’s per-message rate for business-initiated messages sent outside that window.
Does pricing differ between BSPs?
Meta’s per-message rates are fixed and identical no matter which BSP or technology provider you use, since Meta bills these directly. What differs between providers is the setup and management fee charged on top, and the depth of automation, integration, and support included in that fee.
